Middle School After School

YMCA receives JC Penney After School Grant to provide more financial assistance to students in the community.

Program Design:

The Kernersville Family YMCA’s Middle School After School Program is designed to help youth reach their God-given potential in spirit, mind, and body. Youth in the program develop the skills they need to be a contributing member of the Kernersville community. Students participate in activities that reinforce core values such as caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith and give them the chance to better understand their own belief system and to make better decisions later in life. Youth are surrounded daily by caring role models who help them grow and learn. Additionally, the program adapts to the changing needs of the youth served and focuses on three elements: 1) homework assistance, 2) physical fitness, and 3) enrichment activities.
Our programs are led by responsible and energetic staff of adults, college and high school students. Each staff member is carefully selected through a comprehensive application and interview process – under the direction of full time YMCA professionals. Staff are fully trained with an emphasis on YMCA priorities such as being an exemplary role model, building self esteem, creativity, safety, fun and YMCA spirit. Our programs are effective because of the quality of our staff.
